About SystemTinker
Welcome — I’m the tinkerer behind SystemTinker, a space where curiosity meets systems. This site is a mix of home energy experiments, smart automation projects, AI exploration, and reflections from years in the fast-paced tech world.
Why I Started This Blog
I’ve always been fascinated by how systems connect — whether it’s software, hardware, or the messy intersection between them. After years in tech leadership and automation-focused work, I wanted to explore how the same thinking applies at home — from optimizing solar and batteries to automating everyday tasks with Home Assistant.
Some of the topics here come from hands-on projects, others from deep research or trial and error. My aim is to share what I learn, help others avoid common pitfalls, and make complex systems more approachable.
What You’ll Find Here

Reflections from Australia’s fintech startup scene — leadership, learning at speed, and the overlaps between professional systems and personal tinkering.
About the Author (Anonymously)
I write under the name SystemTinker, based in Melbourne, Australia. I have an Honours degree in Software Systems with an electronics background and over a decade of experience leading teams in fintech and automation-focused environments. Before that, I worked in home theatre and power systems, which sparked a lasting interest in how tech integrates into everyday life.
Today, I’m blending that experience with a personal goal — to keep learning, to experiment openly, and to build something meaningful through shared curiosity.
I prefer to stay anonymous — partly to separate professional and personal projects, but mostly to protect a bit of privacy in a world where there isn’t much left.
Guiding Principles
- Learn in public. Share as you go, not after it’s perfect.
- Be practical. Focus on what works in real homes, not marketing claims.
- Encourage curiosity. Complexity isn’t something to avoid — it’s something to understand.

Closing Note
SystemTinker is about exploring how technology fits into real life — from the power grid to the workplace, and everything in between. If my experiments help even one person make a smarter decision or start their own project, then it’s all worth sharing.
